B.Sc Forestry

Introduction


Forests is a commodity which is to be managed scientifically to enhance its production and productivity and for protection of environment as well as to sustain our agriculture. We need a trained man-power in various categories of forestry jobs. To produce world class forestry professionals with very high degree competence and skill, forestry education needs to be reoriented so as to meet the challenges of high forest productivity and global markets. Forestry education needs to be tuned to meet the requirements of various sub sectors such as wasteland afforestation, watershed conservation, forestry economics & planning, forest biotechnology, agroforestry, forest business management and forest industries.Forestry is the art & science of managing forest, tree plantations and related natural resources. The main emphasis in forestry is given on creating and implementing systems that allow forest to continue a sustainable continuation of environmental supplies and services. B.Sc. Forestry is an undergraduate forestry and wildlife courseThe course is divided into sixsemesters. The primary emphasis of the Bachelor of Science in forestry programme is to impart theoretical and practical knowledge in all the areas of forestry. After passing the course the candidate can go for further master degree and also for research work.

Scope and future opportunities


Candidates after completion of course can find jobs in industries that utilize forest resources employ industrial and agricultural consultants. They have also good job scopes in Indian council of forestry research and education (ICFRE) and its affliated forest research institutes. They can also go for further master degree and then for research studies, can also find career opportunities in zoological parks and wildlife ranges.
